First Screaming Orcas Test Pilots Announced on December 30th

December 20, 2015 is the date the first group of test pilots selected for Screaming Orcas will be announced.

SkyBoat and T-URBO, working in collaboration with JWocky, have been in the process of developing a comprehensive test flight evaluation and report form that will be available on this site for anyone interested in that aircraft’s particular stage of development.

We are also developing a rating system that will be rolled out some time in 2016 that we have the intention of giving a more accurate assessment of the plane’s capabilities and level of development than is currently in use.

Screaming Orcas-Taking Off To Create a Better FlightGear

fgfs-screen-017

Over 900 planes!  FlightGear has a hanger that is beyond substantial and more are on the way every month.  When the Free Flight Free Speech group formed, one of the objectives we had was to create a test flight group to take every aircraft up and check it out for every flaw, catalog those for future reference whenever some brave developer decided it was time to update that particular aircraft.

Screaming Orcas was formed by Chief Test Pilots SkyBoat (CEO) and T-URBO (Chief Operating Officer) to start the process of going through these planes, not only one by one, but to accept new aircraft from developer clients.

Since T-URBO and I are both Pacific Northwesterners (I on the U.S. side and he on the Canadian side) we came up with the crazy name of Orcas (killer whales) flying through the air like screaming jets.  Soon we’ll have an appropriate logo to go along with our group’s name.

We are currently in the process of assembling our test pilot group and are accepting applications for test pilot positions.

The image above is my MD-10 ACF Special Edition which I and a number of very talented FlightGear associates have developed out of the McDonnell-Douglas DC-10-30ER. It is adorned in the DC-10 “Roll Out” livery celebrating the 45th Anniversary of the DC-10.  It is sitting in front of the Terminus Transtellar Foundation Hanger at KXTA, Homey Air Force Base, commonly known as…Area 51.  It is the official headquarters of the Screaming Orcas Test Flight Group.

And to quote the great Chuck Yeager as we take to the virtual skies:

If you can walk away from a landing, it’s a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it’s an outstanding landing.
